RE

In R.E. it is our aim to help pupils to make sense of and communicate their own beliefs about religion, spirituality and moral values. We also want them to acquire knowledge, understanding and insight into differing religious beliefs and practices. By doing this we hope to encourage empathy and respect for other people regardless of their religious, ethnic or social background.

In teaching R.E. we want to help pupils:
• understand the role religious beliefs play in the lives of individuals, families and communities
• develop an understanding and knowledge of the traditions and beliefs of Christianity and their significance for our culture and moral values
• develop an understanding and knowledge of other major faiths represented in Britain, including Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism and Sikhism

Hinduism

In R.E. lessons this term, year 7 have been looking at Hinduism, the main religion in India. They know where and when it originated and some of it’s main features. Pupils in our class realise that everyone learns in a different way, some people learn better by visualising things (visual learners), listening to them (auditory learners) or getting up and doing something about them (kinaesthetic learners). We all found out what kind of learner we were, then worked in groups to learn facts about Hinduism to suit our learning style.

One particular part of Hinduism we looked at was what happened in a Hindu wedding and how it compares with a Christian wedding. We found some similarities and differences and watched a typical Hindu wedding in a film.
