The first car to come off the production line at Nissan Sunderland plant was the Bluebird.  Nissan have come a long way since then.

Some children from Year 7 and Year 8 had the opportunity to visit the site. We enjoyed a talk about the developments and modifications they had done to their cars over the years.  There was an emphasis on change of power source.  The advantages of using electricity to power the new Leaf car were looked at.  The Leaf will soon be in production in 2013 and will be constructed at the Sunderland Plant along with the batteries that will power them.

We were shown video clips of how the cars changed from metal sheets and different components into the finished product.  We were then taken to the production line where we saw robots, computer controlled systems of distribution and workers constructing the cars.  Each car was different in terms of model, colour, left or right hand drive, alloy wheels or not, different interiors etc....in fact they were all custom made.  It was amazing to see how all the different parts found their way to the specific cars.
Completed cars were rigorously tested and checked.

It was an fantastic experience and everyone had enjoyed the afternoon. We were all given a gift of a rechargeable torch and were complemented on our behaviour.
