Hearing Dogs for Deaf People is a registered charity. It is there to improve the quality of life for deaf people. The Charity trains dogs to alert deaf people to household sounds and danger signals. They also provide companionship, confidence and greater independence for their deaf partners.
Peter has difficulty hearing and so he has a Hearing Dog. He kindly brought his dog Isla to school and he discussed with the children in Year 5 how his life had changed for the better by having the dog around. Karen, Peter’s wife, also came to talk about how having Isla had helped the whole household.
It costs about £14 000 to keep a hearing dog. Peter answered all our questions and it was wonderful to know that dogs can be so helpful to us.
Year 5 designed and made their own coats for a Hearing Dog. They were to be worn by the dogs on their days off work.
