Seahouses Middle School Website
Seahouses Middle School is in the fishing village of Seahouses on the north Northumberland coast.
It is surrounded by history, having castles at nearby Bamburgh, Lindisfarne, Ford, Dunstanburgh, Alnwick, Warkworth and wonderful natural resources on our doorstep including miles of unspoilt beaches, sand dunes and farm land.
The school was purpose built to accommodate the Secondary Modern School in 1961, and in 1983 changed to join the three tier system in becoming the middle school.

The visitors watched a PowerPoint presentation (available here) showing the children’s proposals and the visitors shared some of the children’s concerns. The visitors then accompanied the children on a short tour of the pathway, during which Ian highlighted the range of animals and plants in the area, and so discussed with the children, the importance of maintaining the natural habitat.
After much discussion, the children decided they wanted to tidy the area up but also did not want to spoil any habitats for the wild animals and flowers.
After studying the area, Year 6 also asked Ian and Mrs Scott if it would be possible for the council to provide litter and dog waste bins for the area. To help decide where to locate these bins, local dog owners were asked where they would like these to be placed.

In groups, the children then went ahead with work on widening the path, collecting and clearing litter, branches and stones. Walls were also repaired and a border for the path was built. It was hoped that the planting of wild flower seeds would encourage more wild life visit and live down The Lonnen.
After completing their work in The Lonnen, the children then designed posters which will be erected by the council, to help make the walkway a more beautiful place to use, and to hopefully keep it this way!
